Unique experience in an ancient temple. Regardless of the inconveniences, related to the fact that it is obviously a basic/spartan structure... it is definitely an original and enjoyable experience. We slept in Japanese-style rooms on tatami mats and with a futon. Our bathroom was separate from the room but for private use, although there was no hot water. Vegetarian dinner, a rather sparse Japanese breakfast... Morning prayer at 6:30! Extremely expensive for one night, but once in a lifetime it is definitely an experience worth having!

We had the absolute best experience at Hojo-In. The monks were so welcoming and helpful. The location, grounds, and entire temple was so beautiful and peaceful and nearly 900 years old. Wow! Plus it is literally right across the street from Danjo Garan so it is a great location. I enjoyed walking around there for quite some time and we even went over and watched them ring the bell in the evening. The room was comfortable and spacious and we were welcomed with delicious tea and a snack. Dinner was extraordinary; honestly, one of my favorite meals in Japan. My husband is very meat-centric, so we weren't sure how he would do but he truly enjoyed it as well. Breakfast was good too. The bath was clean and relaxing. We also took advantage of the massage and that was excellent. Morning prayer was very interesting to experience as well and we were very happy to be able to attend. Honestly, we wish we had stayed longer!

Everything was nice and we have appreciate a lot to stay in Hojo-In Temple, the place is beautiful as Koyasan. We love the quiet of the place and attend to a morning prayer was a unique moment. We are grateful.

We had a lovely stay at Hojo-in temple. Our room was fantastic! We loved the view on the garden and the tranquillity. The food prepared by the 93 year old chef was amazing! Also the morning prayer was an experience to attent. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Highly recommend this temple for a wonderful stay at Koyasan.

We had a wonderful stay in Hojo-in. The welcoming by Kiyo and Haru was warm. The atmosphere is calm, the food is excellent. Definitely, it is the highlight of our 5 weeks Japan travel. Unfortunately, we reserved only for one night. The temple Hojo-in and the whole village of Koyasan is worth a longer stay.
