We stayed at the Fudouin Temple in November 2025. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and thoughtfully provisioned in the traditional Japanese style. The meals were exquisite, vegetarian fare that provided you with sweet, sour, bitter and salt. The breakfast and dinner were filling, colourful, and tasted amazing. The meals were clearly created with care. The Temple has a traditional Onsen. It was clean, well maintained and great to relax in. We were invited to morning services, which is a must. The service was conducted in Japanese with some English to help those of us who don’t have Japanese. It was serene, peaceful, and meditative. The Temple is located close to the amazing ancient Okunoin cemetery. It is also walkable to the town site and convenient for local shopping. We very much enjoyed our stay. It was quiet, peaceful, and enriching.
