Thank you for the unique experience we had in the temple Sanbo-in! The bath was so nice! Only suggestion would be to maybe extend the bathing hours in the evening past 9pm, maybe until 10pm.

Overall, it was a nice experience, but I would tell all my friends and family that it's not something you absolutely have to do. It just lacked love, such as explanations about the food, which dish is which and why it is served in this particular way, etc. For the price, that's the minimum I would expect. It was just okay and quite nice.

(+) We had a nice experience in this temple. We especially liked the atmosphere. All monks were very friendly and helpfull to us. The room and the onsen were above our expectations. (-) We would have liked more information, especially since we were still new to Japanese culture. The staff's English was very limited, which is understandable, but we would recommend to provide a printed text to guests with important information, like dinner and onsen times, when to wear the robes, and perhaps some background information about the traditions and history of the temple. We found that the lady at reception was friendly during check-in, but did not seem to want to help answering our questions afterwards. Overall, I think we expected the temple stay would be a religious or spiritual experience, and that we would learn a bit about buddhism, but that was not really the case.

The temple and accommodation were beyond my expectations. The room was beautiful, the food excellent, and the Rengego-in Temple an oasis of peace and beauty. They were able to accommodate food allergies, for which I was very grateful. I look forward to returning to Koyasan and staying there once again.

We really enjoyed the authentic temple stay at Saimon-in. The service provided was splendid. It was our first visit to Japan and to Koya-san. The nature along with autumn color changes and the calmness of the temples will remain with us as an unforgettable memory. Thank you!

We got a spacious suit of two large rooms overlooking a beautiful earth, stone and fish pond garden. Our stay was very peaceful. Dinner and breakfast served in a private room with a written explanation. Not a big fancy place but calm and very relaxing. We wormly recommend staying there.
