This was an extaordinary and uplifting experience. The reception was warm and welcoming, as was the free tour of the monastery later. The room was traditional, with tatami matting, futons and a heater. I find it difficult as a westerner to get used to sitting on the floor, with no other furniture, but it would spoil the authenticity and ambiance it there were! The food was outstanding: beautifully presented and delicious. There is no western alternative, which is fine by me but the teenage boys at the next table spent a long time discussing how they were going to Family Mart or the service station for snacks. It's worth considering beforehand whether this is going to be problem for your family. I didn't use the bath, so I can't comment. All in all, this was probably the best experience of our trip to Japan.

We enjoyed our three days stay at Daien-In Temple and in Koyasan a lot. The hospitality was great, food was excellent and we felt very welcome.

Staying at Hoon-in was the highlight of my trip. The staff were amazing, the place clean and cosy, and the food exceptional. They even had boards indicating what each ingredient was, which I found really helpful. The setting is beautiful, and I wish I stayed for longer. Thank you to everyone at Hoon-in and to the website for making this possible.

Unique experience in this phantastic temple. The food is amazing, never eaten like this! We will come back!

The food was great, especially dinner time. Breakfast could be a little more. The instructions on how to use the bath were not too clear, which could be challenging for the customer at first. Useful information, for example where to go/what to do in order to enjoy typical activities (i.e. graveyard nightwalk) could be provided to the guest as well. Overall the experience was comforting, especially the morning meditación.

I was very happy with my stay in Koyasan. The town and surroundings are incredibly peaceful. The reservation process itself was very painless, and communication was overall simple both ahead of time and when I arrived at the temple. The days I planned to stay was notated incorrectly during check-in, but it was an easy fix. I received a tour and schedule of important activities at the temple when I checked-in, and has an absolutely delicious dinner + breakfast. One thing to note - the bus schedule and stops have changed, and the information I was sent for arriving at the temple was no longer accurate. Keep that in mind. Overall I highly recommended a stay in Koyasan.
