The Kodai Inn in Koyasan is a peaceful and memorable place to stay, offering a real taste of traditional Japanese culture. Staying at a temple in Koyasan was one of the highlights of my Japan trip. The vegan food (shojin ryori) surprised me — way more flavourful than I expected. Multiple courses, all beautifully done. Waking up early to join the monks for morning prayer was a powerful, meditative experience. If you're looking for something truly unique in Japan, this is it. Highly recommend.

Our family stay at Shojoshin-in Temple was an amazing experience. First of all we were warmly welcome when we arrived at the temple and they gave us all the necessary information. The temple is just next to Okunoin cemetery. The dinner was very good and tasty and so was the breakfast. We had a very good night of sleep as our room was very comfortable for our family.

The Koyasan Shukubo Official Booking Site was very helpful for us. Most temples were fully booked when we tried to book directly and on our own. But through the Association’s official booking site, we were able to find a spot at the last minute, and it was excellent. The communication was excellent. We highly recommend the Fugen-in Monastery. A very beautiful place, perfectly located. Our room on the second floor was excellent; it even had its own large sink and private toilet, with no neighboring rooms, and a wonderful view of the garden.

My stay at the Daien-in was absolutely unforgettable and I'd recommend everybody that has interest in japanese faith, spirituality and culture to stay at one of the Shukubos in Koyasan - the temple and its traditional architecture was probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The monks and the service was always available and extremely kind. I definitely would repeat such experience. Thanks for everything!

Great authentic stay. The morning prayer and food were highlights. Next time we will stay longer. Would recommend that the brochure for the temple is sent out to guests in advance so that they can see the times for meals and additional events happening and plan around them.

The temple stay was amazing! The food is definitely a highlight for me. The room was beautiful with views on the garden. The location is very calm too. All the people there were really attentive to our needs and friendly! It would have been nice to have some other spiritual activities or other cultural elements available at the temple to help connect with the culture/history of Koyasan. Very good experience!
