| Plan Notes |
Daien-in is a historic temple founded in the early 9th century.
It is also known as the temple associated with the love story of "Takiguchi Nyudo and the Flute" which is also told in the Tale of the Heike, and there is a historic flute site within the temple grounds. You can enjoy the beautiful gardens where you can enjoy the four seasons of Koyasan, and experience early morning religious services (starting at 6:00, 6:30 in winter) and copying sutras, and you will feel the solemn atmosphere that is unique to temple lodgings.
Located in the center of Koyasan, the temple lodging has good transportation access and you can walk to Kongobuji Temple (approx. 7 minutes), Reihokan (approx. 10 minutes, the Treasure Museum that houses the treasures of Koyasan), Tokugawa family mausoleum (approx. 15 minutes), and Daimon Gate (approx. 20 minutes).
The lodgings are decorated with lighting and accessories made from Koya paper, which is said to have been brought to the area by Kobo Daishi, as well as works by Nagasaka Yoshimitsu (awarded the Photographic Society of Japan Writer's Award), one of Japan's leading photographers who has made photographing Koyasan his life's work.
The sliding screen paintings on the front hall, study, and living room are drawings of famous places at Koyasan, painted by Kyoto palace painter Yasukawa Jofu.
