We could not recommend highly enough staying at Tentoku-in Temple accommodation and spending time in Koyasan. Our stay was a very special experience and we’d encourage people to embrace the atmosphere and spiritual calm and to attend the morning spiritual prayers. It was a deeply moving and also very personal as the leader of our optional mornings prayers (sutras) was also our host. Waking to the sound of gongs was awesome. The food was exceptional. It was incredibly tasty all while feeling very clean, healthy and prepared with care and attention. We’d definitely stay again!

A night at Hoon-in was the highlight of my Kansai stay. As a solo traveler I was welcomed warmly and never felt out of place. The tatami room was simple, spotless and deeply peaceful, and the shojin-ryori dinner (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) was far better than I expected. The 6:30 morning prayer is worth the early alarm: atmospheric and moving even if you don't understand a word. The temple has a bus stop near its gate, with Danjo Garan within walking distance. Okunoin is at the other end of town, about a 25-minute walk, but with a bit of planning the bus makes the lantern-lit dusk visit easy and unhurried, completely worth it. As for payment: is in cash at checkout, and the card pre-authorization was refunded quickly though your mileage may vary depending on card and bank. If you're considering a temple stay on Koyasan, I can fully recommend this one.

Our stay in Hoon-in temple was lovely and really enjoyed it. The meditation session was excellent, it lasts nearly an hr so if you can’t sit cross legged for that long ask for a chair. Minimal guidance beforehand with time for questions afterwards - a good way to do it.

I stayed here for 2 nights as a solo traveler after finishing the Kumano Kodo. Everything was excellent: great food, clean room, and well-maintained facilities. Staff were friendly, helpful, and spoke English. You can also book a free ajikan meditation session. The temple is walking distance to Daimon Gate, which is really convenient for those who wanna walk the Choishimichi trail to Jison-In.

Our one night stay at Shojoshin-in Temple was amazing. The temple is beautiful. Our accommodation was lovely as was the food but mostly the people were so welcoming and helpful. We cannot recommend it enough.

Soggiornare al tempio Daien-in a Koyasan è stata un'esperienza meravigliosa! L'edificio è stupendo, ogni stanza è unica e la mia camera con vista sul bellissimo giardino era incantevole. Gli orari di rientro serali sono perfetti: dopo le 18:00 a Koyasan è già buio e i negozi sono chiusi. Consiglio di andare a dormire presto per partecipare alla preghiera mattutina delle 6:30: un'esperienza sacra e davvero affascinante. Il cibo è 100% vegetariano (Shojin Ryori, a base di tofu e verdure). Se non incontra i vostri gusti, è bene avvisare in anticipo per evitare sprechi; io ho mangiato tutto per profondo rispetto verso il tempio. L'onsen era spazioso e molto pulito. Ottimo anche il servizio di deposito bagagli alla reception per girare comodi dopo il check-out. Consigliatissimo!

Thoroughly enjoyed my two night stay at the Yochi-in Template. The food was delicious and plentiful, the surrounds were both peaceful and comfortable, the prayer ceremonies were wonderful, and the monks were friendly and approachable.
