In today’s fast-paced world, taking time to slow down, reflect, and rest is more important than ever. Shakyo offers a meaningful opportunity to calm the mind through mindful writing. As you carefully copy each character, you can let go of distractions, improve your focus, and experience a deep sense of peace.
Sutra copying takes around one hour. Guests who wish to participate in the Shakyo room should check in early, as the room is available from 3:20PM to 5:00PM, or the following morning from 8:15 AM. If you wish to use the Shakyo room in the morning, please take all your belongings with you in advance; we will store your luggage at the front desk.
As preparation is required, kindly inform the staff in advance. Outside of these hours, you may copy sutras in your guest room at your convenience, with no time limit until check-out.
If you would like the temple to offer prayers for your copied sutra, an additional offering of 1,000 yen is required.

【FAQ】
Q: Is there guest parking available?
A: While we do not have a designated guest parking area, you may park by the entrance or on the edge of the road near the Kodaiin temple gate.
Q: Can I use a credit card?
A: Accommodation charges are paid in advance by credit card. Please note that payment for additional services including the sutra-copying experiences, temple stamps(goshuin), and beverages can only be paid for in cash.
Q: Can I participate in the Okunoin Night Tour?
A: Yes, you can participate in the tour. Please inform us during check-in at our Shukubo. We will prepare for an early dinner to accommodate you, and we kindly ask our guests to take a shower before heading to the tour. Our public bathing room hours are from 4:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.(Men: 4:00p.m.-5:00p.m, 8:00p.m.-9:00p.m ; Women: 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m.) The walking distance is approximately 20-30minutes to the meeting point.
Q: I have allergies to eggs and dairy products. Can you accommodate me?
A: Yes. Our Buddhist vegetarian cuisine, Shojin Ryori, does not contain meat, seafood, eggs, or dairy products.
Q: Do you offer discounts for children?
A: Yes. Children in lower elementary school grades are charged 70% of the adult rate. They will be served a children's menu that includes hamburg steak, fried chicken, and fried shrimp rather than Buddist vegetarian cuisine. Children in upper elementary school grades are charged 80% of the adult rate. Their meals will be our traditional Buddhist vegetarian cuisine served in half the adult portion size.
Q: Do you provide luggage storage?
A: Yes, we offer luggage storage both before checking in and after checking out (by 5:00p.m). Feel free to leave your belongings with us.
Q: Can you send my luggage to my next accommodation after check-out?
A: Yes, we can arrange shipment of your luggage. However, many accommodations do not accept cash-on-delivery shipments. Therefore, please pay the shipping fee at the time of shipment.
Q: May I receive goshuin, temple stamps?
A: Yes. Please request a goshuin either at check-in or before dinner. Please note that we may be unable to accommodate requests at check-out, as our staff may be occupied with cleaning at that time.
Q: Is your facility wheelchair accessible?
A: Unfortunately, our temple is not barrier-free. If you require a chair during meals, please inform us in advance.
【About child booking】
・Children aged 10 to 12 will be served Buddhist vegetarian cuisine (Shojin Ryori).
・Meals for children aged 7 to 9 and toddlers will not be Buddhist vegetarian cuisine (meat and fish will be served).
